Tips for a Fun Wedding Reception

When it comes to weddings, everyone dreams that it will be a memorable and fun event in their lives. No one really thinks about weddings that it will be boring and uncreative. This is why there are so many couples that wish that their big day will be as memorable as possible. If you are among them, here are some tips that can help make your big day a fun one:
  • First Dance – Your first dance will make a good impression on your guests, especially if you took time to prepare for it. You can even have a dance coordinator teach you some steps so that you will be a good dancer on your big day. If you like, you can skip the traditional and boring first dance. Instead, you can prepare for a good song.
  • Toasts – Before the big day, you can ask the people assigned to give out a wedding toast to prepare for it. Your wedding planner can even listen to them so that the speech will be well prepared, short, and meaningful. This way, there will be no awkward moments during the event.
  • Food and Drinks – Throughout the reception, make sure that everyone has enough food and drinks to keep them from leaving or getting bored. Serve alcohol and have an open bar.
  • Party Favors – Make your wedding party favors an interesting choice and see to it that everyone receives one. It’s even better if the gift is something they can use during the wedding reception.
  • Surprise Treat – Before the wedding reception starts, have your planner inform guests about a surprise treat at the end of the reception. This will ensure that they stay until the end of the party.
  • Wedding Venue – See to it that you decorate your wedding venue nicely that it will encourage people to go around and mingle with other people. This way, you can be sure everyone will do their part.

If you’re still looking for a venue for your wedding, make sure you check out Flourtown Country Club so you can have a memorable and fun reception.

How to Make Your Walk Down the Aisle Memorable

There are several times during a wedding that are memorable and surely the walk down the aisle is one of them.  But brides are choosing to look past the traditional "here comes the bride" music and add some flare.

Here are three ways brides are adding something extra to their walk down the aisle:
  • Lights - Bring down the lights  or change them as the bride enters the room.  Or, backlight the bride so that she appears to be glowing.
  • Music - The traditional wedding march is a safe back-up but brides want people to remember their wedding as different.  So they're adding a show tune, top 40, or something that sparks a memory.
  • Action - Who says that tradition can't have a little oomph?  Some brides and their bridal entourage show off their excitement by dancing down the aisle.  It's great fun for guests to watch...and yes, they remember and talk about it later.

Traditional.  Tradition with a twist or outright original, weddings are what you make them and we here at the Flourtown Country Club are ready to make your wedding dreams a reality.  Please give us a call and let's talk about your vision.

Funny Wedding Traditions and Superstitions

Tuck a sugar cube into a brides glove to make your union sweet? or put a spider inside the brides wedding gown for good luck?  It's funny how many wedding traditions there are and what they mean.

Here are a few wedding traditions that made us chuckle:

  • Ancient Romans studied pig entrails to determine the luckiest day to marry.
  • According to Hindu traditions it's lucky if you have rain on your wedding day.
  •  At a Czech wedding the tradition is to throw peas at the newlyweds instead of rice.
  • In Egypt, the bride's family traditionally does all the cooking for a week after the wedding, so the couple can...relax.
  • In Rome they would break bread over the wife's head for fertility's sake.
  • An old wives' tale: If the younger of two sisters marries first, the older sister must dance barefoot at the wedding or risk never landing a husband.
  • The bride stands to the groom's left during a Christian ceremony, because in bygone days the groom needed his right hand free to fight off other suitors.

We are fans of any wedding tradition and love the ones that are truly one of a kind family traditions.  We would love to help you plan your Flourtown wedding here using all the traditions you want or none at all.  Please give us a call and let's talk about your wedding day vision.

Wedding Cake Traditions Revealed in Flourtown

Yes we're located in a town called “Flourtown” so it’s expected that we would have a connection with cakes and baked goods.  Our town literally did get its name from the original flour mills located on the ample running water in the area. With all that flour around there’s been plenty of baking going on around here for  hundreds of years now.

The culinary team here at the Flourtown Country Club is well connected to the traditions of delicious baked goods.  Here are some fun traditions that you may find helpful when planning your wedding day goodies:

  • The tradition of having cake at a wedding has been around for centuries and is steeped in symbolism.  If a traditional type wedding suits your fancy, perhaps sticking with a cake instead of pies or candy bar is best.

  • During the Victorian era the color white became associated with weddings and white wedding cake became popular as a symbol of virginity and purity.  Nice, but aren’t we glad that in modern times the sky is the limit for personal choices on type and flavor of cake to have.  We hope you will talk to our team about the styles and types we offer.
  • Another ancient wedding cake tradition is the cutting of cake.  Did you know that cake was cut and served by only the bride, as it was thought the cake was a factor in her fertility?  As weddings grew, the groom had to assist in the cutting and serving and it became traditional for the bride and groom to share the first piece together as a symbol of their unity.  While the “first piece” tradition is beautiful and fun to watch be assured we have plenty of staff on hand to help with serving and other guest needs.

We are well versed in the traditions of weddings and ready to help you make the best choices. We hope to see you soon to tour our unique and beautiful facility.  We’re sure you’ll consider it the perfect place to stage your wedding and reception but be sure and look through our photo gallery to see our gorgeous wedding cakes.  We are sure you will love what you see as much as we do.
